After a high-school romance gone wrong, in which the guy cheated on her for months in a row, Sydney isn’t very eager to start a new relationship. When she comes back from college to spend summer at home, she’s thrilled to meet up with her friend Heather. But then Heather has a proposition that Sydney can’t refuse: to live at Heather’s beach house all summer. Sydney gets a job at a local surf shop, and decides to go for it. What could go wrong, right?
But on the first day there she meets Grant, a mysterious but mesmerizing guy who definitely qualifies as hot. She feels immediately drawn to him, even when Heather warns her Grant may not be as perfect as he seems. Sydney struggles between her growing feelings for Grant, and her fear of history repeating itself…
I liked the plot because it was pretty straightforward, allowing for enough character development to actually make me feel for the characters. I thought the first chapter was a bit rushed, detailing Sydney’s previous relationship. I was starting to worry the entire book would be like that, but then it settled down on the summer after Sydney’s first year of college, and really took off from there.
Heather deserves the “Best Friend Award”. Kendall, not so much. I didn’t like Kendall at all, but I loved Heather and Sydney, even though sometimes I thought Sydney was very naief for a girl her age.
I absolutely adored Grant though. He had it all: the sexy, mysterious hot guy worth to swoon over, but also the brooding, sulking bad boy side.
This book is a lovely summer romance with interesting, fun characters, some very hot scenes and a couple you’ll cheer for. Ideal for during summer, but heck, it made me feel warm, even in winter.
